Houston Dating Coaches – 8 Relationship Issues to Let Go Of
There are many issues that you should never take lightly in a relationship, but our Houston dating coaches here at Houston Singles know there are plenty of things you can learn to let slide to save face and prevent unnecessary stress on you and your partner. And there are many factors will come into the equation when determining whether or not to bring up issues that come up in your relationship—your age, your personality, and the dating history between you and your partner.
Personality plays a huge role in whether or not you can let go of certain things. For example, if your partner is bossy, that might not be a big thing to you because you may already be used to their ways. And it’s not something that will necessarily destroy the relationship, depending on your personality and how you can handle it.
Everyone is different, and there is no shame in admitting it. It all comes down to how you and your partner bond with each other and how you handle things that pop up. If you think that confronting your partner will better the relationship, then go ahead and let them know you’re upset about whatever issue is bothering you, but be sure to have everyone’s best interest at heart and never make them feel attacked in the process.
Issues That Are Not Worth Fighting Over
Today, our Houston dating coaches will show you the issues you should not fight about with your partner. These issues are small things that you need to learn to let roll off so you can save your time and energy for things that are worth your while and worth discussing and working on with your partner.
1. Alone Time
There is nothing wrong with your partner wanting to do things by themselves, so don’t let this bother you, especially if the two of you live together. Your partner is allowed to do what they want during their free time. For example, they can partake in their favorite hobby, hang out with their friends, or visit their family members.
You can also do the things you enjoy doing during your spare time. Whether it’s hanging out with your own friends, playing your favorite sport, or just going out for a run, it’s healthy to have your own interests and life. When the two of you reunite, you can discuss what each of you did, which our Houston dating coaches know can actually improve the quality of your relationship.
This is definitely something that has to do with a person’s personality. For example, if your partner feels like they are the one to take charge in the relationship, you should not let this get to you, especially if they’re not really doing anything wrong. Your partner might make little things feel like big accomplishments, but try not to let it get to you. You know your partner loves you deep inside and only wants to do what’s best for both of you in the relationship. However, they should not be demanding you around or expecting you to do more for them than they do for you.
3. Time with Friends
Another issue that can cause many problems in a relationship is when one partner wants to spend time with their friends. We don’t see an issue with this, but many people do. Some people believe their partners should spend all their free time with them, and if you are one of these people, you need to let go of that belief.
There is nothing wrong with letting your partner hang out with their friends. Poker nights with the guys on Wednesday or wine nights with the ladies on Thursday is okay. Remember that it’s good to spend time away from your partner and perfectly healthy for the two of you to maintain your own social lives. Our Houston dating coaches don’t want you to let this small issue get to you but rather embrace it.
4. Bad Jokes
Another relationship issue could be your partner’s bad sense of humor. If your partner is known for cracking lame jokes, or embarrassing ones, you should not let this issue cause any stress in your relationship. As long as your partner is doing it with a kind heart, you should not let it bother you. Sure, lame jokes might not be what you want to hear all the time, but remember that your partner is not doing it maliciously. If they’re just trying to put a smile on your face, just let it go. Now, this does not mean you have to put up with derogatory or mean jokes, but if they’re just lame, don’t let it eat you up.
Wet towels on the floor? Makeup containers all over the counter? Dishes piled up in the sink? Well, messiness is very subjective. What might be an unholy mess to you might not be bothersome to others. Of course there is nothing wrong with reminding your partner to pick up after themselves, just don’t turn a small issue into a full blown fight. You should only make a big deal out of their mess if it’s turned into a sanitary issue.
6. Constant Nitpicking
Why don’t you wear that shirt anymore? You shouldn’t do that to your nails, stop picking! Don’t you think it’s time for you to start working out? Nitpicking is an issue that many people cannot stand, and it will cause unnecessary stress in your relationship. No one likes to be told that what they’re doing is wrong, especially by their partner. When you nitpick your partner, you’re reminding them of their mother growing up and how she nitpicked everything they did. This one is for a lot of the women out there: try not to nag your partner all the time, because it will certainly cause a lot of resentment in your relationship.
7. Spending Habits
Whether your partner is a big spender or a penny saver, you can’t really tell them what to do (as they want as long as they’re not destroying their bank account or coming up short for bills). Remember that if your partner pays their bills on time, they’re allowed to spend their money on what they want. It’s their money, they work hard for it, and you must not tell them what they can or cannot do.
8. Your Friends Disliking Your Partner
Everyone has been exposed to this uncomfortable scenario. Your friends might dislike your partner, but you should not let this issue get to you. At the end of the day, you love this person. So what if Michelle or Mike don’t like your partner? Your friends might come around eventually, but don’t let this get to you and bring unnecessary stress to your relationship right now.
You need to pick your relationship battles wisely and not let every single little issue get to you. As you can tell, there are some issues that are better left ignored. Ignoring certain issues will save you and your partner from unnecessary stress and arguments.
